San Francisco

These paintings utilize the falling apart of mixed media better than I have ever seen before in my life. I was in a San Francisco Gallery in 2010 and I ran into a large showing of the artist Raymond Saunders. From a distance you see a fairly glossy and realistic rendition of an asian looking urn but when you get closer you realize it is made of trash spray paint and who knows what else. He is a master of his mess. a few months later I was in Europe and I came across this billboard on a random countryside brick structure. Clearly I had been long forgotten, and why wouldn’t it be, there wasn’t a person in sight who was going to see this advertisement. I snapped the photo because I felt it had similar characteristics to Saunders work , a layering of parts that I have been working on in my own work.
